GRANITE FALLS — Granite Falls racked up 10 runs in the second inning to run away with its final Cascade Conference game of the season and lock up a district berth.
Tigers starter Xavier Denke pitched five innings of shut-out baseball and was 2-for-2 with two RBI at the plate to lead the Tigers. Riley Larsen and James Barnard each added two hits, including a triple apiece.
With the win, Granite Falls beat out Lakewood for the third and final 2A district berth. To make districts the Cougars needed to win their finale — they lost to Coupeville 4-2 — and have the Tigers lose. This is Granite Falls’ first trip to the district tournament since 2007. Cedarcrest finishes in second place.
