Prep baseball: Snohomish 3, Lake Stevens 2 (8)

SNOHOMISH — Pinch-runner Josh Johnston scored on an overthrow to third base in the bottom of the eighth inning to help the Panthers preserve their perfect record in a Wesco 4A contest on Tuesday.

Connor Thompson, who also earned the victory on the mound for Snohomish in relief on Ben Dmochowsky, singled in the eighth and was replaced by Johnson on the basepaths. Kody Kaysner singled to right field with Johnston running on the pitch, and the throw attempting to cut Johnston down at third base was wild, allowing the winning run to score.

Nick Hoskins was the tough-luck loser for the Vikings, allowing three runs (two earned) on 11 hits, striking out nine and walking one.

Dmochowsky fanned six and walked four in seven innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs.

Chase Ridder doubled twice for Lake Stevens, and double-play partner Justin Brown added a two-bagger for the Vikings.
