Prep boys basketball: Chabot gets Stanwood boys off to quick start in 77-64 win

STANWOOD — Eric Chabot sparked Stanwood with 11 first-quarter points and the Spartans cruised to a 77-64 Wesco North boys basketball win over Arlington Friday night.

Stanwood countered every defense the Eagles used en route to a 21-point lead at halftime.

“They ran all kinds of defenses at us,” Stanwood head coach Zach Ward said. “The guys did a great job executing … we ran some motion and some sets and we got good looks almost every trip.”

Aside from solid shooting in the first half, the Spartans limited second-chance opportunities for Arlington, according to Ward.

In addition to his 15 points, Chabot also grabbed nine rebounds for Stanwood, which sits safely in third place in the Wesco North standings.

For Arlington, Cole Carpenter and Tyler Busby combined for 41 points.

Ward said the Spartans received contributions from a number of players. Kale Schmidt, a 6-foot-3 junior forward, scored 19 points and shot 14-for-14 from the free-throw line. Jordon Solvberg pitched in 10 points and eight assists. Busby finished with a game-high 24 points for Arlington and Carpenter had 17.

“It was a great atmosphere,” Ward said.

Stanwood hosts Monroe tonight, a win would help the Spartans keep pace with second-place Lake Stevens.
