Prep boys basketball: Granite Falls 59, Lakewood 52

GRANITE FALLS — The Granite Falls boys basketball team used a 22-point first quarter and a hot shooting first half to earn a 59-52 victory over Lakewood Wednesday night in both teams’ Cascade Conference opener.

“It’s important for us to get off to a good start and we had a lot of guys that stepped up and played key roles,” Granite Falls head coach Andy Estes said. “We came out and pushed the ball really well and were able to settle in and shoot a really high percentage.”

Alex O’Neill led all scorers with 17 points for the Tigers. Also in double digits for Granite Falls were Steven Hyvari (16) and Ezra Chavez (12).

“(O’Neill) is our point guard. He gets us where we need to be offensively and defensively,” Estes said. “He had a good all-around game.”

Paul Coleman scored 14 points, Ryan Alford scored 13 and Chance Schueller added 12 for Lakewood.
