EDMONDS — With or without Brett Kingma, Jackson is heading into the 4A District 1 playoffs.
Junior guard Ryan Todd scored a game-high 22 points, senior forward Bryan Koch added 17 points and Jackson outshot Edmonds-Woodway 31 to four at the foul line to take a 58-45 Wesco South victory Thursday night at Edmonds-Woodway High School.
The win improved Jackson’s league record to 9-4 and allowed the Timberwolves to clinch a District 1 invitation despite the fact that star guard Kingma is out for the season with a broken arm. Edmonds-Woodway fell to 2-11 in league.
“They did a good job of getting to the free throw line,” Edmonds-Woodway head coach Todd Rubin said.
Clinging to a three-point lead with a minute and a half remaining in the game, Jackson repeatedly got to the line and made their foul shots, converting 13-of-16 attempts in the fourth quarter. Todd went 6-for-6 at the line in the fourth quarter.
Kenan Polovina led Edmonds-Woodway with 15 points and five rebounds and Jeff Wilson added eight points and five rebounds.
“Polovina played well,” Rubin said of the 6-foot-6 senior forward. “We pounded the ball down low to him and he did a good job of finishing.”
Edmonds-Woodway won almost every other category besides free throws, outrebounding Jackson 20-19, assisting on six more shots (10-4) and forcing two more turnovers (12-10).
