SULTAN — Sultan gave King’s a close game Thursday, but the Knights came back from a three-point deficit going into the fourth quarter to win the non-league game 48-37 at Sultan H.S.
Christian Taylor led scoring for the Knights, but it was the second half opportunities created by Eric Castonguay and freshman Calvin Kispert that made the comeback possible, according to King’s assistant coach Keith Nelson. The Knights outscored the Turks 17-3 in the fourth quarter.
“We came in at halftime, really rallied in and focused and buckled down on the game plan,” said Nelson.
“Eric Castonguay really carried us in the second half,” Nelson said. “He created most of the offense, he created a lot of assists for his teammates. He scored the important buckets and seemed to be in the right place almost all the time. He played with a mental toughness and really kept the team focused.”
Kispert, a freshman, also made an impact, and not for the first time. “Calvin Kispert had 11 rebounds as a freshman, he is averaging 11 or 12 rebounds a game, and he had another big game”
Nelson praised Brian Hughes, who had five steals and eight deflections in addition to his seven points. “He gets after it and dives on the floor almost every single play.”
