Prep boys basketball: Marysville Pilchuck 56, Snohomish 43

SNOHOMISH — The Marysville Pilchuck boys basketball team held Snohomish to just six fourth-quarter points as they pulled away for a 56-43 victory on Tuesday night to improve to 4-0 on the season.

“Give a lot of credit to Snohomish, they were just relentless,” Marysville Pilchuck head coach Bary Gould said. “…They started to press and we were able to utilize our quality guard play in that fourth quarter.”

The Tomahawks were led by three different players who scored in double-figures. Cole Grinde scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Josh Bevan tallied 14 points and seven assists and Michael Painter added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

“The reality is we went away from our set plays and we just opened it up and let them play, especially in that fourth quarter when we broke away,” Gould said. “You prepare them as best as you can in practice and in the game you just let them take over.”

Collin Kane tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Snohomish. The Panthers were picked by the coaches to win the Wesco 4A in the preseason but have started the season 0-3.

Despite their early struggles, Gould believes beating the Panthers will be no easy task for future opponents.

“I would not even begin to rule out the Panthers in the Wesco 4A,” Gould said. “They are going to be just fine.”

Bryce Juneau added eight points and 12 assists for the Tomahawks.

Zak Carlson recorded 10 points and five assists for the Panthers.
