Prep boys basketball: Monroe 65, Cascade 39

MONROE — The tallest player on Monroe’s roster came up the biggest on the floor Tuesday as the Bearcats dispatched Cascade 65-39 in their 4A District 1 first-round playoff game.

Cole Parker, listed at 6 feet, 7 inches, played every bit of it as he scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to go with five blocked shots. He finished 9-for-18 from the field.

“Cole Parker really led the way for us,” Monroe coach Nick Wold said. “He was a force in the paint with five blocks as well. He was the catalyst for us tonight with his energy and defense.”

Propelled by Parker’s energy, the Bearcats got out to a hot start and maintained it through three quarters as they built a commanding 53-18 lead. Monroe outscored Cascade 22-4 in the third quarter alone.

“I thought our defensive energy was great tonight,” Wold said. “I thought we did a great job out on the wing against Kenny Jackson, who had a great game against us the last time we played. We extended out on him and were able to get a hand in his face on every shot.”

Jackson finished with just four points for the Bruins.

Next up for Monroe is a winner-to-regional semifinal matchup against Lake Stevens (12-9) at 6 p.m. Friday at Jackson High School.
