Prep boys basketball: Mountain View 69, Arlington 62

ARLINGTON — The Arlington boys basketball squad learned first hand just how good Mountain View is.

The Eagles got to within three points with under two minutes to play after trailing 43-35 at the half, but could not get any closer, falling to Mountain View 69-62 on Wednesday night.

“You know we didn’t know a lot about them,” Arlington head coach Nick Brown said. “We knew they were a good shooting team, we obviously wanted to contest their perimeter shots.

“We were right there,” Brown added, noting his team cut a 12-point deficit to just three late in the fourth quarter. “We had some looks early on but weren’t able to get them to fall (until) the fourth quarter.”

Mountain View, a 3A school hailing from Vancouver, had five players in double-figures against Arlington. As a team, Mountain View finished with 10 3-point field goals, aiding it to a eight-point halftime lead.

“They’re a good team,” Brown said. “I thought we did a better job of defending (the 3-pointers) in the fourth quarter but it was a little too late.”

In the fourth quarter, Arlington guards Conner Davis and Terry Dawn, did all they could to bring the team back. Davis delivered three 3s and Dawn scored seven of his game-high 19 in the quarter.

But, every time Arlington threatened, the Thunder seemed to have an answer, hitting big free throws to seal the nonconference victory. Mountain View finished 17-of-23 from the line for the contest, including 7-of-9 in the final quarter.

Arlington will try to bounce back in another nonconference on Friday as it takes on Marysville Getchell.
