PREP BOYS ROUNDUP: Marysville-Pilchuck in playoff form in 8-1 win over Mountlake Terrace

MARYSVILLE — The baseball game at Mountlake Terrace High School Thursday matched two 4A teams that made the district playoffs in 2009.

Marysville-Pilchuck was in playoff form but Mountlake Terrace showed its youth as the Tomahawks cruised to an 8-1 victory.

The Hawks (1-1) graduated 14 seniors in 2009 and their inexperience showed at the plate where they couldn’t get anything going against junior pitcher Jacob Thomas (1-0).

Andrew Woeck (0-1) battled for the Hawks on the mound, going five innings with just one earned run and six strikeouts but M-P exploded in the sixth against the bullpen, scoring five runs.

“It really was a good game for the first five innings,” Terrace coach Andrew Watters said. “They are a very good team and we are such a young team.”

M-P’s J.V. Estella was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Dane Widness reached base three times for the Tommies and scored twice after collecting two steals.
