EVERETT — Aiden Huggins scored the game’s lone goal in the 14th minute to lead Archbishop Murphy to a 1-0 victory over Sehome in a 2A District tournament semifinal game. The win clinched a state playoff birth for the Wildcats and a berth in the final game.
For Huggins his goal came off a ball in the 14th minute that he had controlled from mid-field. Huggins was able to make the shot after passing the last defender and tucking it away on the lower left side of the goal to make it a 1-0 game.
For Huggins it was his 23rd goal of the season.
Archbishop Murphy goalkeeper Jordan Trinka recorded his 11th shutout of the season, but Wildcat coach Michael Bartley was sure to compliment his overall team defense along with his star goalie.
“(Tonight) we just had very good team defense,” said Bartley. “They only had three shots on goal all night, and the back four are really a credit to our team’s defense. It’s also a credit to Jordan’s ability (as a goalkeeper). He has only allowed two goals all season.”
Bartley was also complimentary of Sehome’s play as they gave his Wildcats arguably their toughest competition to date. “Sehome was excellent. They move the ball well, they’re definitely one of the best passing teams we’ve seen all year.”
