Prep boys soccer: Shorecrest 1, Glacier Peak 1

SHORELINE — Shorecrest’s Axel Wickstrom scored off of an Alex Day assist in the 6th minute, and David Linney of Glacier Peak scored off a free kick in the 30th minute as the Wesco 3A match up ended in a 1-1 tie on Monday night.

“It was just a game of unfinished opportunities,” said Shorecrest coach Drew Thompson. “For them (the Grizzlies) it probably felt like a win, for us (the tie) definitely felt like a loss.”

Early on Thompson described the game as, “very back-and forth”, but in the second half believed that game was more in Shorecrest’s favor.

Day’s early goal came off an errant pass from a Glacier Peak player at the top of the penalty box. Day intercepted and converted a nice thru-pass to Wickstrom for the score.

The Grizzlies loan goal by Linney was a long up lofted free kick from 35-40 yards out.

“Linney’s free kicks are dangerous,” said Thompson.

In goal for the Scots was recent JV call up David Miller. It was Miller’s first start in goal at the varsity level, and coach Thompson was definitely impressed with his young goalkeepers play.

“David had a solid debut, he definitely did well. There was just that one unlucky goal.”

With the tie Glacier Peak moves to 2-3-2 in the Wesco 3A standings, while Shorecrest’s record stands at 3-1-3.
