SHORELINE — Axel Wickstrom scored in the 15th minute and Alex Day added a second goal for Shorecrest in the 42nd minute as the Scots defeated Marysville Pilchuck 2-0 in a loser-out district game.
Shorecrest dominated possession and rebounded from a tough 2-1 shootout loss to Oak Harbor in the first round of the district tournament.
“That Oak Harbor loss was, frankly, devastating,” said Shorecrest head coach Drew Thompson. “We’ve got a very good team this year. Often times, when you suffer a loss like that, it’s hard to bounce back.”
But the Scots did just that Tuesday afternoon. They took the early lead and kept Marysville Pilchuck goalkeeper Ryan Spiva — who made some rather spectacular saves — busy the entire game.
“Michael Chang, our forward, took some great shots,” Thompson said. “Against most keepers that’s a goal for him.”
Sam Schober earned the shutout in goal for Shorecrest, who moves on to face the loser of the Meadowdale-Glacier Peak game. The Scots will look to continue their winning ways and extend their season and playoff run.
“It’s the time of the year where you have to get the win,” Thompson said. “That’s all that matters right now.”
