EVERETT — Shorewood defensiveman Dodge Schaeffer scored the game’s lone goal off of a free kick in the 78th minute to lead the Thunderbirds to a 1-0 victory over Everett in a Wesco 3A match.
Weather did not seem to be a factor, as the “mid-field battle” — as Shorewood coach Nate David described it — was close the entire way.
“It was really an even game all around,” said David. “(We) were a little distraught at half, but we got that foul in the 78th minute and that’s what put us over.”
Schaeffer’s goal was assisted by fellow defensiveman Matt Petterson.
David gave credit to Everett’s overall play, admitting that they came out a little more fired up than Shorewood in the first half, referring to his team’s play as, “a little flat.”
With the win the Thunderbirds remain undefeated on the season and in first place in the Wesco 3A standings.
