SHORELINE — What turned out to be a battle for third place in the Wesco 3A South standings ended with a tie between Shorewood and Meadowdale on the Thunderbirds’ senior night.
Shorewood entered the game with a chance at first place in the league, but Shorecrest and Glacier Peak won their respective contests Wednesday. The tie maintained the Thunderbirds two-point edge in the standings over the Mavericks.
“It’s super challenging in the south,” Shorewood coach Bill Wilkins said. “We aspired for first or second, but that didn’t work out.”
Instead the Thunderbirds earn a date at Stanwood in the first round of the District 1 playoffs. It will be Shorewood’s first and only game of the year on a grass field.
Meadowdale got on the board early in the 13th minute thanks to freshman Nathan Redd.
Early in the second half, Kabir Kahn found Anthony Pepe for the equalizer. For the rest game, the teams traded near misses, but were kept off the scoresheet.
Meadowdale finishes fourth in league and will travel to Marysville Pilchuck in the opening round of the playoffs Saturday.
