SNOHOMISH — Reilly Cross scored in the 57th minute to put Snohomish ahead for good as the Panthers defeated Arlington 2-0 in a Wesco 4A North match.
The game was the second shutout in a row in Snohomish’s young season, a shutout that was shared by the Panthers two goalkeepers, senior Brandon George and junior Luke Riske.
“It’s a matter of giving guys an opportunity,” said Snohomish coach Dan Pingrey of his use of two goalkeepers.
Typically George and Riske split halves, but on Thursday night coach Pingrey decided to play Riske in just the last 20 minutes of the match. Luke had hit his head on the upper bar at Wednesday’s practice and Pingrey wanted to take any precautions necessary.
“He (Luke) is non concussed, at this point it’s just a bump. But you can never be too careful,” said Pingrey.
The win keeps Snohomish atop of the Wesco North standings with a 2-0 record on the season. Their next scheduled match is Tuesday at Monroe.
