Prep boys soccer: Snohomish 5, Mariner 0

EVERETT — Reilly Cross had a hat trick for Snohomish in a 5-0 win over Mariner in a Wesco 4A crossover game. Brenden George had the shutout for the Panthers, and freshman Blake Crutchfield made a strong contribution with two goals coming off of his throws.

Snohomish leads the Wesco North and Mariner was tied with Jackson at 6-1 atop the Wesco South going into the game. While Mariner was not at full strength, being down starting keeper Yuri Nagornyy and a starting sweeper, the game was still a meeting that could have Wesco 4A implications.

“This was a big game,” said Panthers head coach Dan Pingrey. “It was an opportunity to play against the top half of the South.”

Pingrey was pleased with how his players did.

“We had a good training week. We were prepared. … They stepped up and right off the bat our level of play was good.”

And the partial strength Mariner team still put up a fight.

“They were working hard. They made it difficult,” Pingrey said. “We got one, then battled, battled, then got another. … It was a nice, very methodical win by the boys.”
