SHORELINE — Despite winning just four of 12 events, the Shorewood boys swim team edged rival Shorecrest 89-87 at Shoreline Pool on Thursday.
The Thunderbirds’ Torrey Morales (100 breaststroke) and Andrew Garrison (50 freestyle) each won individual events and also contributed on winning relay teams. Morales swam on the 200 medley relay team and was joined by Garrison on the 200 freestyle relay, which notched a 3A state-qualifying time of 1 minute, 32.94 seconds. Garrison also swam a state-qualifying time of 49.19 in the 100 freestyle, but finished second to Shorecrest’s Carter Osborne, who recorded a time of 48.84.
That was Osborne’s second state-qualifying time of the meet. The senior posted a time of 1:50.31 in the 200 freestyle, winning the event by almost six seconds. Two other Scots’ swimmers also won two events. Aaron Zevenbergen finished first in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, while Grant Heisey captured the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke events.
