Prep football: La Conner 52, Darrington 20

DARRINGTON — The La Conner offense ran over the Darrington defense with five first half rushing touchdowns, as the Braves cruised to a 52-20 win over the Loggers in a Northwest/Seatac 2B game played at Darrington high school on Friday night.

Braves quaterback Sean Hulbert, narrowly avoiding a sack, connected with running back Wil James on a shovel pass. James took the pass 20 yards to give La Conner (5-0, 8-1) a 42-6 lead just prior to the end of the second quarter.

The passing score by Hulbert would add to his three rushing TD’s. James added two additional touchdowns on the ground, finishing with 99 yards on 9 carries.

It didn’t take long into the second half for the Braves as Hudson Zavala took it 53 yards with 10:59 left in the 3rd to put the game safely in hand for La Conner.

The Braves’ defense held the Loggers to minus nine yards rushing in the first half. Despite La Conner’s defensive pressure Darrington managed one big scoring play as quarterback Trent Green threw a 74-yard TD pass to Bruce Massengale for the lone first half score for the Loggers.

With the victory La Conner is assured at least a share of the Northwest League/SeaTac title heading into next week’s game against second-place Concrete.
