Prep football: Marysville Getchell 48, Lynnwood 27

MARYSVILLE — Marysville Getchell running back Collin Montez rushed for 274 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Chargers to a 48-27 victory over Lynnwood in a Wesco 3A crossover game Friday night.

Montez rushed for 105 yards a touchdown in the first half, and exploded for four touchdowns in the second half, including scoring runs of 44 and 70 yards.

“The kid is one of those guys that I may never coach another athlete like that again,” Marysville Getchell head coach Davis Lura said.

Lineman John Clark led the MG defense with 10 tackles, including two sacks.

Friday’s game was Marysville Getchell’s first in two weeks. Last Friday’s home game against Stanwood was canceled in the aftermath of the shooting at Marysville Pilchuck High School.

After an emotional week, Lura said it was nice for his team to get back on the field.

“It’s therapy,” Lura said. “That’s the best way I can describe it. It was therapy for us.”

After the game, Marysville Getchell players returned to Quil Ceda Stadium to show their support for Marysville Pilchuck in the Wesco 3A championship game against Meadowdale.

“I think out of a lot of bad, we’re going to have some good come,” Lura said. “I think that this community needs this night. I think it’s great that both schools can be here.”
