STANWOOD — Marysville Pilchuck cruised to a 19-0 lead and held on after a furious Stanwood rally to capture the Wesco North victory 26-22.
Stanwood took a 22-19 lead on a 5-yard Kyle Strachan run in the fourth quarter. The Spartan quarterback rushed 12 times on the night for 107 yards and tossed a two-point conversion to Mason Garcea to push Stanwood’s only lead to a field goal’s margin.
But MP quarterback Jake Luton saved the game for the Tomahawks (1-1 league, 3-2 overall) with a 39-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Nobach. It was the second scoring connection for the duo on the night.
The Spartans (0-2, 0-5) were stuffed on fourth down near midfield with less than two minutes to go in the game as they tried to regain the lead. Ryan Randall carried the ball 28 times for 118 yards and scored twice for Stanwood. Kyle Bennett recorded 12 tackles on defense.
