PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Lynnwood notches first win in two seasons

EDMONDS — Lynnwood scored 12 points — six coming off a recovered onside kick — within the last three minutes, rallying late to score 20 fourth-quarter points and give the Royals their first win in two seasons, 34-32 over Sedro-Woolley Thursday.

Sedro-Woolley was driving with 20 seconds remaining when Lynnwood’s Jordan Thomas sacked Peter Janicki on Lynnwood’s 27-yard line, causing a fumble which Jacob McCann (17 solo tackles, 11 assists) recovered to seal the non-league victory.

Royals’ quarterback Michael Stanley finished the game 15-for-24 passing with 335 yards and three touchdowns.

Lynnwood running back Typhis Cochran had 17 carries for 91 yards and two touchdowns, and six receptions for 142 yards and two touchdowns.

Lynnwood forced and recovered three fumbles.

Sedro-Woolley was led by Ian O’Brien’s 158 rushing yards and three TDs.

Archbishop Murphy 42, King’s 28: At Shoreline, Alex Martinez ran the ball 17 times for 173 yards and three touchdowns in his first action since separating his shoulder three games ago to lead Archbishop Murphy to the Cascade Conference win. Caleb Smith, who himself is returning from a broken leg, had 60 yards and two touchdowns on five carries, helping the Wildcats rack up a total of 501 rushing yards as a team. Thomas Vincent led King’s with 25 carries for 113 yards and a touchdown, and completed six of 15 passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns through the air.

Cedarcrest 34, Lakewood 13: At Marysville, Jacob Kriegbaum led all rushers with 202 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries to help Cedarcrest pull away in the third quarter of the Cascade Conference game. Justin Lane completed 16 of 37 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns for Lakewood.

South Whidbey 28, Coupeville 6: At Langley, South Whidbey scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, and won the battle on Whidbey Island in the Water-Bucket Game. South Whidbey’s Henry Mead had 16 carries for 130 yards, all in the second half of the Cascade Conference game. Coupeville’s Hunter Rawls threw 16-for-22 for 237 yards and one TD, and ran for another from 8 yards out. South Whidbey is the No. 3 seed out of the Cascade Conference.
