Prep football: Shorecrest 14, Lynnwood 13

EDMONDS — Shorecrest defensive lineman Josh Schuh returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown to tie the score and the Scots got a critical stop on Lynnwood’s fourth-quarter two-point conversion attempt to secure the Wesco 3A win and prevent the Royals from pulling off the upset for their first victory. Lynnwood’s Blake Lord threw two touchdown passes, including a 9-yard pass to Morgan Skelton with 7 minutes in the fourth quarter. After Skelton’s score, the Royals decided to go for the win instead of the tie, but the two-point conversion failed.

“We decided our defense had been doing really well,” Lynnwood head coach Mike Don said. “If we got it we didn’t think they would be able to come back and score. If we didn’t get it we thought we could stop them and get the ball back. That happened, we got the ball back, but we weren’t able to score again.” Shorecrest had 237 yards passing to Lynnwood’s 163. Lynnwood will battle another winless team in Marysville Getchell next Friday.
