Prep girls basketball: Jackson gets key victory

MILL CREEK — It’s not second place but it’s almost just as good.

The Jackson girls basketball team defeated Kamiak 59-44 at Jackson High School Thursday night and moved into sole possession of third place in the Wesco South standings. Since Meadowdale, currently in second place, is a 3A school, Jackson currently holds the No. 2 4A seed.

“We knew it was a big game for us,” Jackson head coach Jeannie Thompson said of her coaching staff going into the game. “For us this was more of a game for second place and getting homecourt advantage in the playoffs.”

Jackson (6-2 in league, 8-2 overall) started the second half by holding Kamiak scoreless for the first six minutes, and outscored the Knights 17-6 in the quarter to take a commanding lead.

The Timberwolves’ Erin Feeney led all scorers with 26 points, eight of which came in the third quarter.

The Timberwolves had only three field goals in the final quarter. The rest of Jackson’s 17 points came from the free-throw line.
