BOTHELL — Edmonds-Woodway weathered a cold-shooting night with stout defense and transition baskets in a 55-42 Western Conference South Division girls basketball win Thursday night at Lynnwood High School.
The Warriors (8-1 league, 10-1 overall), who shot just 3-for-12 from the free-throw line, benefitted from six steals in the second quarter to help open a 26-18 lead.
“We like to get into transition, create some open space and attack the basket,” said Edmonds-Woodway head coach Duane Hodges.
Alex Kenney and Madeline Kasper helped key those open-court looks with four steals apiece.
The Warriors heated up in the third quarter by converting three of five 3-pointers.
Angela Woods finished with 16 points and three rebounds for E-W.
Sydney Donaldson and Ashley Albertson combined down low to help win the rebounding battle against Lynnwood’s Mokun Fajemisin.
Fajemisin finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds for the Royals (3-6, 5-6), but Donaldson and Albertson each finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.
“We held our own on the boards with them,” Hodges said.
Kasper added 11 points for E-W and Laycee Hill scored 14 points for Lynnwood.
The win keeps E-W at the top of the Wesco South standings along with Jackson.
