SHORELINE — The Shorecrest girls basketball team used its size advantage inside to control the paint both offensively and defensively as the Scots beat Meadowdale 51-36 in a Wesco 3A game on Thursday night.
Shorecrest front-line players India Matheson and Onyie Chibuogwu were the difference. Matheson scored 17 points and had 13 rebounds and Chibuogwu scored seven points and had 11 rebounds to give the Scots an advantage in the interior.
“We had a real size advantage and that was our game plan on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball,” said Shorecrest head coach Dori Monson. “I think it’s the best we’ve played all season.”
Meadowdale was led by Margreet Barhoum, who scored 18 points. “We knew Margreet was going to get her points, but we made sure we knew where she was at at all times,” Monson said. “The girls did a great job of communicating on defense.”
The win keeps Shorecrest undefeated and a half-game behind first-place Glacier Peak in the Wesco 3A standings.
