Prep girls basketball: Snohomish 50, Marysville Pilchuck 44

MARYSVILLE — Julia Young was too much for Marysville Pilchuck to handle Wednesday night and the senior guard led the Panthers to a 50-44 come-from-behind victory over the Tomahawks.

Young was held to just a pair of free throws in the first half as the Tommies took a 22-17 edge, but she came out strong in the second half. Young finished with 25 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter and was 11 of 12 from the free-throw line.

“We came out a little bit sluggish,” MP coach Julie Martin said of her team’s play after halftime. “Our focus was Julia Young and we didn’t stick to our game plan.

“She came out really on fire.”

Emily Enberg paced the Tommies offense with 14 points. Martin was encouraged by her team’s play despite the fact that it was MP’s second loss in a row.

“We actually played really hard,” Martin said. “We are pretty young and we have really stepped it up from our last few games.”

With the win Snohomish (2-1 Wesco North, 4-2 overall) moves into second place in the league standings.
