SEATTLE — Holy Names scored two second-half goals to break a scoreless tie at halftime and defeat Shorewood in the first round of the girls 3A state soccer tournament Tuesday.
“(The game) evened up in the second half a lot more,” Shorewood head coach Bill Wilkins said. “They (Holy Names) are a good team, they do good stuff. We adjusted, we competed, but we weren’t able to finish. We had a couple of real good chances to score but we just couldn’t come up with (the victory).”
The loss ends the Thunderbird’s season, but Wilkins said his squad achieved their goal of getting to state this year.
“It was a real thrill to get to go to state,” Wilkins said. “…going into the season we really wanted to see if we would be one of the three teams to make it to state out of the Wesco and we acheived our goal.”
Holy Names will face the winner of Wednesday’s game between Bishop Blanchet and Columbia River in the quarterfinals.
