STANWOOD — Shorewood’s Daniella Brengelmann ensured a No. 1 seed in her fourth trip to the state tournament with a 0-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Mountlake Terrace’s Nicole Bouche Wednesday afternoon at the 3A District 1 tournament at Stanwood High School.
Brengelmann, who went to state as a doubles player the past three seasons, finished fourth last season and seventh in 2012. Her victory was the first singles loss of the season for Bouche.
Madeline Mahler (Glacier Peak) defeated Kindall Gordon of Everett in the third-place match to earn the district’s final state berth.
In the doubles championship, Mountlake Terrace’s Allison Lorraine and Tina Liu defeated Mariah Orcutt and Alyssa Sanford of host Stanwood 6-3, 6-3 to win the district title. Both teams qualified for state, as did Alessia Piazzi and Kylie Stevens, the second team from Stanwood that won the third-place match against Shorecrest’s Lauren Rutter and Rachel Stevens.
