PREP GOLF ROUNDUP: Sultan pair join forces for fifth-place team placement

The fledgling golf program at Sultan High is just four years old but it has aready produced two standout players who combined to finish fifth as a team in the 2A boys state meet Wednesday at Apple Tree Golf Resort in Yakima.

Brad Green tied for sixth with a two-round total of 147, seven shots behind state champion Connor O’Neill of Washougal. Teammate Johnny Bradwell improved seven shots from round one to shoot a season-best 1-under-par 71 for at two-round total of 149, good for 13th place.

As a team, they scored 61.5 points. Bellingham won the team title with 83.

“As a team we did really well,” Green said. “I struggled a bit but came back and played well on the back nine. Johnny played outstanding.”

Kamiak golfers Seo Hee Moon and Mark Strickland posted the best individual performance by area players. Moon tied for fourth in the 4A girls meet. Strickland tied for fifth in the 4A boys.

Moon’s teammate Rachel Choi tied for eighth, helping the Kamiak girls place fifth in the team competition.

The Jackson boys also placed fifth on the strength of finishes by Barrett McGinnis (tied 10th), David Won (tied 25th) and Kyle Cornett (tied 38th).

The Everett duo of Stephanie Soelling (tied 17th) and Jody Barhanovich (tied 24th) combined to give the Seagulls a sixth-place finish in the 3A girls meet.

4A boys
