PREP GOLF/TENNIS ROUNDUP: Kamiak’s Strickland wins big at Egbers

MT. VERNON — Mark Strickland took a playoff off the table.

Strickland, who lost in a playoff at the Dolan Invitational, put some distance between himself and the rest of the field in winning the Egbers Invitational Friday at Skagit Golf and Country Club. Strickland fired a 36-hole score of 1-under-par 141, six shots clear of the field, to medal and lead Kamiak to the team championship in the elite invite, which foreshadows the district meet if not the state meet.

Shorewood’s Max McKinley, who won the Dolan after tying with Strickland and Jackson’s David Won, tied for seventh at 149. Won was a shot back in a tie for 10th at 150.

Jackson’s Barret McGinnis, who was sixth in the Dolan, finished in a three-way tie for second at 147 and won a chip-off for the runner-up position. He helped Jackson to a third-place finish in the team standings behind Bainbridge.
