Four local prep events to keep an eye on this week:
Boys soccer: Jackson at Lake Stevens, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. This Wesco 4A matchup is a battle of upstarts. Jackson, which hasn’t won more than five matches in a season since 2012, is off to a 5-1-1 start and has outscored its opponents 24-5. Lake Stevens, which won just six matches combined over the previous two seasons, is 4-2 and has outscored opponents 18-6.
Baseball: Jackson vs. Mount Vernon, 4 p.m. Wednesday at Sherman Anderson Field in Mount Vernon and 4 p.m. Friday at Jackson H.S. After beating Jackson twice in the regular season last season and earning a share of the Wesco 4A title, Mount Vernon’s state-tournament dreams were crushed with a 9-5 loss to the Timberwolves in a district elimination game. Both teams are expected to contend for the conference title again this season.
Boys golf: Tom Dolan Memorial Invitational, 1 p.m. April 9 at Everett Golf & Country Club. The 17th annual event features teams from Everett, Arlington, Edmonds-Woodway, Glacier Peak, Kamiak, Lake Stevens, Marysville Getchell, Marysville Pilchuck, Monroe, Mount Vernon, Oak Harbor, Shorecrest, Snohomish and Stanwood.
Boys soccer: Kamiak at Glacier Peak, 7 p.m. April 9. This Wesco 4A showdown features a pair of one-loss teams that reached the state tournament last season. Kamiak (6-1), a state quarterfinalist last year, has allowed just two goals this season. Glacier Peak (4-1-1), which placed third in state last year, averages 2.7 goals per match.
