Three prep events to keep an eye on this week:
Girls basketball: Lake Stevens at Jackson, 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. Defending Wesco 4A champion Lake Stevens and Jackson open conference play in a clash of league-title contenders. Freshman Mackendra Konig and North Dakota State University-bound senior Olivia Skibiel averaged a combined 32.7 points per game in the Timberwolves’ first three contests.
Boys basketball: Marysville Pilchuck at Edmonds-Woodway, 7:15 p.m. Friday. This Wesco 3A showdown features two of the top players in the area. League favorite Marysville Pilchuck is led by University of Washington-bound senior RaeQuan Battle, who scored 21 points in his season debut last Friday against Mercer Island. Edmonds-Woodway junior Mutdung Bol, who has a scholarship offer from Eastern Washington University, averaged 18 points per game in the Warriors’ first three contests.
Girls basketball: Shorecrest at Arlington, 7:15 p.m. Friday. In the conference’s preseason coaches poll, Arlington was picked to finish third in Wesco 3A and Shorecrest was voted fourth. Amanda Lee is averaging 17.7 points per game for the 3-0 Scots, including 26 points in a season-opening win over Wesco 4A contender Jackson.
