Here are four local prep events to keep an eye on this week:
1. Girls basketball: Cedarcrest at Archbishop Murphy, 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. The winner of this game will have an early advantage in the race for the Cascade Conference championship. These two teams were predicted to be the top two squads in the conference, and sure enough, they enter this contest with unbeaten records.
2. Boys basketball: Shorecrest at Mountlake Terrace, 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. Once again, the Hawks’ Khyree Armstead (23 points per game) faces off against one of the top local players. This time, it’s the Scots’ Philip Pepple, who’s gotten off to a strong start this season, averaging 22 points per game.
3. Boys wrestling: Oak Harbor at Marysville Pilchuck, 7 p.m. Thursday. These two teams are looking to unseat Everett and Arlington for Wesco 3A North supremacy. Wrestler to watch: The Wildcats’ Blake McBride, who took sixth place at last year’s 3A Mat Classic in the 132-pound weight bracket.
4. Girls basketball: Glacier Peak at Lake Stevens, 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. These two teams have been at the top of Wesco 4A for the past two years, but now the roles are reversed — the Vikings are the favorites, while the Grizzlies are hoping for an upset. Glacier Peak’s Abbie Juozapaitis is settling into her new role as the Grizzlies’ go-to offensive player quite nicely, averaging almost 20 points per game.
