A look at this week’s state-tournament action involving local teams:
Football: 4A state quarterfinal, Graham-Kapowsin at Lake Stevens, 7 p.m. Saturday. The third-seeded Vikings (11-0) face sixth-seeded Graham-Kapowsin (10-1) for a spot in the state semifinals. It’s a rematch of last year’s first-round state playoff matchup, which G-K won 38-31 to end Lake Stevens’ season. G-K is led by University of Washington commit Dylan Morris, the nation’s seventh-ranked senior quarterback according to 247Sports.com.
Volleyball: 4A state tournament, Friday and Saturday at Yakima Valley SunDome (Yakima). Monroe, Lake Stevens and Kamiak are headed to the 16-team state tournament. Monroe (13-4) has won seven straight matches, including a sweep of Wesco 4A champion Lake Stevens in the Northwest/Sea-King bi-district title match. The Bearcats open with a first-round matchup against two-time defending state champion Auburn Riverside (13-8). Lake Stevens (15-2) opens against Tahoma (18-3), and Kamiak (12-7) faces West Valley-Yakima (17-0).
Volleyball: 3A state tournament, Friday and Saturday at Yakima Valley SunDome (Yakima). Snohomish, Stanwood and Oak Harbor are headed to the 16-team state tournament. Wesco 3A champion Snohomish (16-1), which placed eighth in state last year, opens with a first-round matchup against Bishop Blanchet (14-9). Stanwood (14-3) faces Eastside Catholic (13-6), last year’s fourth-place state finisher. Oak Harbor (13-4) squares off against Prairie (14-3).
