Four local prep events to keep an eye on this week:
Baseball: Arlington at Snohomish, 4 p.m. Tuesday. In the opener of a two-game conference series last Friday, Arlington rallied for an 11-8 win over Snohomish with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Eagles are coming off back-to-back 3A state quarterfinal trips and are the favorites to repeat as Wesco 3A North champions. The Panthers have reached three consecutive state tournaments, but lost five all-conference players from last year’s team.
Boys soccer: Glacier Peak at Lake Stevens, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. After averaging just 1.1 goals per match last year, Lake Stevens opened the season with a pair of 6-1 non-conference wins over Marysville Getchell and Stanwood. Glacier Peak, which took third in the 4A state tournament last season, should provide a good measuring stick for the Vikings in the Wesco 4A opener for both teams.
Softball: Edmonds-Woodway at Mountlake Terrace, 4 p.m. Wednesday. This matchup of Wesco 3A South favorites is the conference opener for both teams. Mountlake Terrace returns standout infielders Sammy Ruiz and Jazz Zenk from last year’s 2A state quarterfinal team, which split the Wesco 3A South crown with Meadowdale. Edmonds-Woodway returns six all-conference players from last year’s 3A state quarterfinal squad.
Chuck Randall Relays at Arlington H.S., noon Saturday. The annual meet includes local boys and girls teams from Arlington, Edmonds-Woodway, Glacier Peak, Lynnwood, Mariner and Marysville Pilchuck.
