EAGLE, Idaho — Just a week ago, Glacier Peak’s two-time defending state champion Amy-Eloise Neale suffered an unexpected defeat to North Central’s Katie Knight at the Class 3A state cross country championships in Pasco.
Saturday at the Eagle Island cross country course near Boise, Idaho, Neale took the individual championship over Knight and helped the Snohomish Grizzlies cross country club team to a second-place finish behind a team with runners from Summit H.S. of Bend, Oregon.
The finish qualifies the Grizzlies team for its first trip to Nike Cross Nationals, held Dec. 3 in Portland, Ore.
“People were asking me are you going for revenge this week, and it wasn’t revenge for me at all,” Neale told Doug Binder of Dyestat. “It was more proving to myself what I can do and what I’m capable of, and being mentally strong when I physically or mentally couldn’t last week.”
Neale’s time of 17 minutes, 50 seconds was a course record and more then 8 seconds better than Knight.
Katie Bianchini placed eighth for the Grizzlies, who beat Camas a week after placing second to it in the state meet.
