It was a fantastic fall for Jackson High School.
Now that the fall sports season is officially over — the state football championships were played this past weekend — it’s a good time to look at the many achievements of Jackson teams.
“It was a level of excitement I don’t think I’ve seen here,” said Timberwolves head football coach Joel Vincent, who has been at Jackson since it opened in 1994.
n In girls swimming, Jackson won its first state championship. The Timberwolves dominated at the Class 4A meet in Federal Way, winning two relay events (200-yard medley and 400 freestyle) and two individual events (sophomore Amber McDermott, 500 freestyle; junior Alana Pazevic, 50 freestyle).
n Jackson’s boys cross country squad — ranked nationally and No. 1 in 4A most of the season — placed second at the state meet in Pasco, the best performance in team history. The school’s girls cross country team also did well, taking fifth at state.
n In girls soccer, Jackson won the 4A District 1 title and placed fourth in the state tournament, the team’s best finish since 2005. Five T-wolves made the All-Wesco South First Team.
n Jackson’s football team, fueled by two-way standouts like Taylor Cox and Riley Carr, won a division title and reached the state playoffs for the first time since 2003 and just the second time ever. The T-wolves’ final record was 9-2.
n Freshman singles competitor Michael Chamerski won league and district boys tennis championships. In addition, Chamerski helped Jackson earn a share of the Wesco South team title.
Vincent, Jackson High’s football coach, teaches history and government at the school. Besides interacting with football players all fall, he had numerous other student-athletes in his classes and kept up with their progress. Reflecting on the numerous fall sports highlights at Jackson, Vincent said “Obviously it was a big shot in the arm for school spirit.”
Former Lynnwood golfer signs Letter of Intent
Kris Jackson, a 2007 Lynnwood High graduate, signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent to play golf for Seattle University. Jackson is one of five golfers who signed with the SU men’s team. “This recruiting class is a big boost in moving our golf programs toward being very competitive at the Division I level. I am comfortable putting any of this year’s recruits into the lineup immediately,” Redhawks coach Don Rasmussen said in a Dec. 2 press release.
