Consolation game (winner to state, loser out)

Mount Si 6, Jackson 1

BELLEVUE — No. 2-seeded Jackson suffered a season-ending loss to top-seeded Mount Si in a winner-to-state, loser-out 4A District 1/2 Tournament showdown of league champions at Bannerwood Park.

The Wesco 4A champion Timberwolves (17-8) lost three of their four games in the bi-district tournament, including back-to-back defeats in winner-to-state contests against Bothell and Mount Si.

Jackson star Dominic Hellman, a University of Oregon signee and MLB draft prospect, led off the game with an opposite-field homer to right field. It was Hellman’s eighth homer of the season.

But that was all the Timberwolves mustered against Mount Si starter Jake Smith, who allowed just one run and four hits in a complete-game performance. He struck out six batters and walked none.

The KingCo 4A co-champion Wildcats (16-7) took a 3-1 lead in the third inning, scoring three runs on two hits and two errors. They added two more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth.

Ryan Gerlitz and Alex Chamberlain each had two hits for Mount Si, which earned its first state berth since 2016.
