MOUNT VERNON — Eighth-seeded Monroe advanced to the 3A state tournament semifinals by beating 16th-seeded Seattle Prep in a quarterfinal game at Mount Vernon H.S.

Its the first trip to the state semifinals for the Bearcats (17-3-1) since they won the 3A state title in 2001 and just the second overall semifinal appearance in program history.

Monroe moves on to face 12th-seeded Mercer Island 2 p.m. Friday at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup.

SHELTON — Darrington clinched its second-ever state tournament berth by beating Mossyrock in a winner-to-state, loser-out 1B district crossover game.

The Loggers’ (8-7) only other state apperance came as a 2B school in 2014.
