PREP ROUNDUP

MONROE — Cascade’s Kyle Zuanich came in just in the nick of time.

Now the Bruins will have home-field advantage for the opening round of the 4A district baseball tournament.

Zuanich turned a double play in relief in the fifth inning and Cascade scored three runs in the first two innings to hold off Monroe 4-3 in a Wesco North baseball game Monday at Monroe High School.

The win broke a tie between the two teams for second place in the Wesco North and allowed Cascade to clinch the Wesco North’s No. 2 seed to 4A District 1 playoffs. With the win, Cascade will have home field advantage for the opening round of district playoffs.

Cascade head coach Scott Stencil said Zuanich entered the game in the fifth inning with runners on first and third and no outs. Zuanich turned a double play to help Cascade escape the inning with the lead, and went on to pick up the save in three innings.

“That’s the best game he’s had all year probably,” Stencil said. “… I’m real proud of him.”

Beau Wilson batted 2-for-4 and had one RBI to lead Cascade.

“We came out aggressive, looking to hit fastballs,” Stencil said of scoring three runs in the first two innings. “…We got an early lead in (windy) weather.”
