OAK HARBOR — The roads maybe clear in Oak Harbor but the December storms have still managed to jam the schedules of a few Wesco North schools. Lake Stevens traveled to Oak Harbor High School Monday to makeup a December 20 game and the Oak Harbor Wildcats were able to edge out the Vikings 49-44.
“We made sure we committed to defense and committed to rebounding,” Oak Harbor head coach Brett McLeod said.
Lake Stevens got to within three points midway through the fourth quarter but never got any closer thanks in part to timely offensive play by Cori Henricksen and Jennifer Jansen. Jessica Denmon was a second half spark for the Wildcats as well knocking down three of her four 3-point shots in the second half. Jansen ended the contest with 11 points and 12 rebounds for Oak Harbor and Denmon was the game’s leading scorer with 19 points.
The Wesco North victory moves Oak Harbor ahead of Lake Stevens in the league standings and into position to make the district tournament.
Stephanie Schumacher was the Vikings leading scorer with 15 points and Meghan Warbis had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
