EDMONDS – The Western Conference South boys tennis tournament was able to squeeze in most of the scheduled matches in before rain halted play for the day

Dan Lum of Mountlake Terrace defeated Edmonds-Woodway’s Joe McCleary, 6-0, 6-1 in the first round of the singles tournament held at Harbor Square in Edmonds. Other singles winners included Mike Klaezynski (Kamiak), Sachin Narvekar (Shorewood), Reid Fenning (E-W), Eiichi Negishi (Kamiak) and Nguyen Trinh (Mariner).

Shorewood’s tandem of Steve McCall and Scott Bourne and E-W’s Nate Shin and Titus Lester won their respective second round doubles matches. Four doubles matches were suspended due to rain. The tournament continues, weather permitting, today at 2 p.m.

At Edmonds

Singles-Lum (Mountlake Terrace) def. McCleary (E-W), 6-0, 6-1; Klazezynski (Kamiak) def. Lee (Everett), 6-0, 6-1; Narvekar (Shorewood) def. Nguyen (Mariner), 6-1, 6-0; Fenning (E-W) def. Cavanaugh (Everett), 6-1, 6-0. Negishi (Kamiak) def. Lathrope (Jackson), 6-1, 6-2. Trinh (Mariner) def. Mathews (Mountlake Terrace), 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Doubles (2nd round)-McCall-Bourne (Shorewood) def. Zipper-Maldaze (E-W), 6-3, 6-2; Lester-Shin (E-W) def. Reni-Lee, 6-3, 6-1.

Girls soccer

Monroe 2, Mount Vernon 1: Taylor Thomas scored two first-half goals to lead Monroe to the Wesco North victory.

At Monroe

Goals-Monroe: Thomas, 2. Mount Vernon: Barron. Goalkeepers-Monroe: Wagner. Mount Vernon: Hughes. Records-Mount Vernon not reported. Monroe 7-4-3.

Girls cross country

Emerald City League Championship: Jane Larson took individual honors with a first-place finish time of 21:34 to help Cedar Park Christian place second behind Seattle Academy. Cedar Park Christian and Seattle Academy were tied with 42 team points apiece, but Seattle Academy was given the title when its No. 6 runner finished four places ahead of Cedar Park Christian’s sixth runner.

Volleyball

Darrington 3, Snohomish County Christian 0: At Darrington, Amy Jones and Melissa Cave combined for 17 kills to lead Darrington (7-0 league, 9-1 overall) to a 25-10, 25-9, 25-2 victory.

King’s 3, Auburn Adventist: At Shoreline, Ashley Strecker had 18 assists and Sarah Barton had 10 aces to lead King’s (9-1 league, 9-4 overall) to a 25-17, 25-22, 25-2 victory over Chinook League opponent Auburn Adventist (1-8, 2-10).
