PREP ROUNDUP

SHORELINE — A grand slam home run by Shorewood’s Trevor Mitsui in the bottom of the seventh wasn’t enough for the Thunderbirds (5-3 league, 7-3 overall) to rebound from a rough six innings in their 10-4 Wesco South loss to Jackson (6-2, 8-2) on Friday at Shorewood High School.

Shorewood’s four pitchers combined for eight walks, including four in one inning. Six of the Jackson batters that walked crossed home plate, which proved to be the difference in the game.

“We didn’t come prepared to play and we didn’t play well,” said Shorewood head coach Wyatt Tonkin.

A two-out single by Miles Brown in the fourth inning helped Jackson lengthen its lead by allowing two runners to cross the plate and extend the inning.

“(Shorewood) is a pretty good team and beat us up good on Wednesday,” said Jackson head coach Kirk Nicholson. “It was nice to come back and get a win today.”

Jackson pitcher Nick Kiel allowed only two hits in five innings to earn the win for the Timberwolves and teammate Cole Plummer batted 2-for-4.

J.K. Dykes hit 2-for-3 for Shorewood.
