Garfield 62, Meadowdale 48
BELLEVUE — The Meadowdale Mavericks may not have knocked off the top-seeded team in the state Friday night, but they did enough to give themselves confidence heading into Tacoma.
The Garfield Bulldogs received strong all-court games from their stars, and the two-time defending Class 3A high school girls basketball state champions defeated the Mavericks 62-48 in a state regional game at Bellevue College.
Rakiyah Jackson had 21 points and eight rebounds, Sarah Lessig had 14 points, seven boards and four steals, and Katie Fiso had 12 points, six rebounds and four assists for Garfield (20-1), which received a bye into Thursday’s quarterfinals at the Tacoma Dome.
With the loss eighth-seeded Meadowdale (18-7) will play a round-of-12 game Wednesday at the Tacoma Dome. The Mavericks will face the winner of Saturday’s game between ninth-seeded Bonney Lake and 16th-seeded Kennewick.

Everett 56, Peninsula 51
TACOMA — The Everett Seagulls are headed to the Tacoma Dome.
Thirteenth-seeded Everett traveled to the south end and beat No. 12 Peninsula in a loser-out 3A state regional game on Friday night at Tacoma Community College.
With the win, the Seagulls advanced to the Hardwood Classic and the final 16 for the first time since 1996.
Everett (18-8) will face either No. 5 Lincoln or No. 4 Mead in a loser-out game at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday at the Tacoma Dome.
Peninsula ended its season with an overall record of 18-6

BOYS BASKETBALL

Freeman 74, King’s 72 (OT)
SPOKANE — Fifth-seeded King’s fell to No. 4 Freeman in overtime of a non-elimination game of the 1A state tournament.
King’s (17-6), will next face the winner of Saturday’s game between No. 13 La Salle and No. 12 King’s Way Christian in a loser-out, round-of-12 game at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
The Knights have placed in nine straight state tournaments, including three championships and three second-place finishes.
Freeman (21-2) received a bye into Thursday’s quarterfinals with the win.
