GIRLS BASKETBALL

3A District 1 Tournament (loser-out)

Monroe 57, Sedro-Woolley 27

MONROE — No. 7 Monroe handled business to advance past No. 10 Sedro-Woolley. The Bearcats (12-10) led 16-4 after one quarter and didn’t allow more than nine points in a quarter during the dominant win. Senior Cascadia Yates had a game-high 19 points while senior Halle Keller (14) and junior Mya Mercille (13) combined for 27. Sophomore Reagan Evans posted 14 points for the Cubs, who dropped to 9-12. Monroe will take on No. 2 Meadowdale on the road on Friday night to continue their district run.

Mountlake Terrace 55, Ferndale 44

FERNDALE — The ninth-seeded Hawks earned a convincing road win over the eighth-seeded Golden Eagles to open their district tournament run. Mountlake Terrace (10-11) will take on No. 1 Snohomish on Friday night as the tournament shifts to its double-elimination phase.

Mount Vernon 51, Edmonds-Woodway 46

MOUNT VERNON — The Warriors’ season came to an end in a close loss to the Bulldogs; Edmonds-Woodway finished their campaign at 9-12 overall. Sophomore Jasmine Gill led the Warriors with 16 points while junior Finley Wichers posted 11 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Shorewood 41, Everett 30

SHORELINE — The fifth-seeded Stormrays (11-12) eliminated the No. 12 Seagulls (6-17) in an all-Wesco playoff matchup.

2A District 1 Tournament

Archbishop Murphy 55, Sehome 27

EVERETT — The No. 2 Wildcats dismantled the No. 7 Mariners on their home floor to kick off their district playoff run. Archbishop Murphy will be back in action on Friday night against Burlington-Edison at Mount Vernon High School.

Burlington Edison 68, Lakewood 40

BURLINGTON — The No. 6 Cougars lost a blowout to No. 3 Burlington-Edison in their opening-round action, meaning 9-13 Lakewood will now need four-straight wins to advance to state. The Cougars will begin that run Friday night against Sehome at home.

Wesco 4A

Lake Stevens 63, Arlington 57

ARLINGTON — The Vikings completed a perfect conference season with a close win over the Eagles. Both squads got a balanced scoring effort, as Lake Stevens (15-5, 12-0) had four double-digit scorers led by junior Keira Isabelle Tupua’s 17 points. Arlington (7-13, 7-5) had three players go for over 10 points as junior Addi Green’s 16 proved to be a team-high.

Non-league

Glacier Peak 79, King’s 76

SHORELINE — The Grizzlies (15-6) outlasted the Knights (14-7) in an overtime thriller to win their fifth-straight game. GP stars Rikki Miller (26) and Brynna Pukis (18) combined for 44 points while King’s star Kaleo Anderson posted 22 points in the loss.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Wesco 4A

Lake Stevens 82, Mariner 77

LAKE STEVENS — The Vikings won a grudge match over the Marauders to claim the Wesco 4A league’s final spot in the District 1-2 4A Tournament. After a first half that saw Lake Stevens get out to a 38-27 advantage, the final two periods were a shootout. Mariner senior Stavontai McSwain exploded for 36 points on 14/19 free-throw shooting while Lake Stevens sophomore Devin Freeman equaled that mark with four 3-pointers. The climactic end to the season sees Mariner finish 10-11 overall and 5-8 in league play. Lake Stevens improved to 9-13 overall and 6-7 in league games as they await their first district matchup on Saturday.

1A Emerald Sound tournament (loser-out)

Granite Falls 47, South Whidbey 42

LANGLEY — The No. 9 Tigers won a close tournament opener over the No. 8 Falcons and will face top-seeded King’s on Friday night on the road.

District 1 3A Crossover

STANWOOD — Fourth and fifth-place district finishers wrestled for some final spots in this year’s Mat Classic, with nine area schools present. In the end, nine area wrestlers won to secure state berths.
