Prep roundup: Glacier Peak soph in title contention

FEDERAL WAY — Glacier Peak sophomore Melissa Randolf qualified for two individual event finals and helped the Grizzlies qualify for the championship final in the 200-yard medley relay during prelims in the 3A state meet Friday at the King County Aquatics Center.

Randolf was second fastest in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.63 seconds. Peninsula’s Lindsey Marchand swam a 53.34.

Randolf qualified sixth in the 50 freestyle in 24.78 seconds. She also swam on Glacier Peak’s 400 freestyle relay team, which qualified for the consolation final in that event.

Shorecrest swimmers qualified for a number of consolation finals. Kim Allyson was 13th in the 200 freestyle and 10th in the 500 freestyle. Laura Millet was 14th in the 500. Both were on the Scots’ 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams, each of which qualified 15th.

Also qualifying for consolation finals were Meadowdale’s Kina Ackerman, who was 14th in the 200 individual medley, and Glacier Peak’s Katlyn Christenson, who was 11th in the 100 breaststroke.

Glacier Peak diver Maria Hawkind was in 1th place after the prelims.


1A state playoffs: At Yakima, Jenn Dame had five blocks and Anna Cesari had 42 assists to lead No. 1 in state King’s to a 26-24, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20 victory over Onalaska in the opening round of the 1A state tournament on Friday. King’s went on to defeat Annie Wright 25-21, 25-15, 25-22 to reach the semi-finals. Against Annie Wright, Meagan Foote had 20 digs, Laura Friar had 18 kills and Anna Cesari had 30 assists. King’s will play Cascade of Leavenworth today at 3:30 p.m. for the right to play in the championship game.

2B state playoffs: At Yakima, Shoreline Christian finished eighth at state on Friday, earning its first state placement in school history after losing to Pomeroy 25-23, 25-21, 22-25, 25-16 in the fifth-place match.

Earlier Friday, Shoreline Christian defeated Northwest Christian of Colbert 15-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 to advance in consolation play. Angie Dekoekkoek had 16 kills, seven blocks and 10 digs, Anne Marie Visser had 31 assists and four aces and Laura Kredit had 11 kills and six digs in that game.

Shoreline Christian, which lost its first match Thursday, then won two consolation matches, improved its all-time record at state to 3-13.

Meanwhile, Darrington grabbed a 2-0 lead over Toutle Lake, but the inexperienced Loggers couldn’t hang on, ultimately losing 16-25 23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 15-7 and falling one victory short of placing at state. The team’s only senior, Mandy Powell, had 46 digs and eight aces in the season-ending loss. Hailey Wales added 10 kills and Randi Wales chipped in seven kills and three aces.

1B state playoffs: At Yakima, North Sound Christian defeated Lake Quinault 25-18, 25-18, 25-18 on Friday in the first round of the 1B volleyball championship at the Yakima SunDome. The Lions play Moses Lake Christian Academy in the quarterfinals at 10:30 a.m. today.

Girls soccer

King’s 3, Overlake 0: At Sumner, Kendall Thoreson had two assists and Kelsey Christianson, Christina McCormick and Hillary Quinn each scored once to lead King’s (18-2 overall) into the 1A state semifinals. Carolyn Dapper recorded the shutout for King’s. CC Cotta started in goal for Overlake. King’s plays the winner of today’s Seattle Christian-Montesano game at 6 p.m.. Nov. 21st at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.

Girls bowling

Cascade 3, Anacortes 0: At Everett, Sara Elliott rolled a 211 game, a 202 game and a 568 series to lead Cascasde (2-1 overall). to the Wesco-Northwest League meet victory. Teammate Breanne Mattson had a 192 game and a 492 series. For Anacortes (0-2), Sarah Johnson had a 196 game and a 476 series.

Jackson 3, Ferndale 0: At Everett, Aleeza Alvarez had a 190 game and a 523 series to lead Jackson (1-1 overall) to the Wesco-Northwest League meet victory. Teammate Kari Reynolds had a 474 series. For Ferndale (0-3), Ashley Ackerman had a 199 game and a 588 series.
