PREP ROUNDUP: Illness hampers Jackson in swim loss to Marysville-Pilchuck

MARYSVILLE — On paper a match up between Jackson and Marysville-Pilchuck in girls swimming is one of the most competitive Wesco North swim meets a fan could see.

Thursday, however, was a different story.

Jackson was without 14 of its swimmers and head coach Drew Whorley, all out with illness, which proved to be too much to overcome. Marysville-Pilchuck won the Wesco North meet 112-71.

Marysville-Pilchuck coach Jaci LeGore Hodgins had nothing but praise for the shorthanded Timberwolves, saying that they were upbeat and positive during the entire meet.

“They put in a heck of a showing,” LeGore Hodgins said. “It was a very positive experience for me to see what a great group of girls Jackson has,”

Marysville’s Hannah Taylor had one of her best days as a varsity swimmer, participating in three school records.

Taylor set records in the 50- and 200-yard freestyle races and was part of the record-setting 200 freestyle relay team. Taylor set the 50 free record while swimming the lead leg of the 200 free relay. The previous individual records belonged to Emily Hutson, a standout Marysville swimmer in the 90s.

“I was so excited to get three records in one day. I have been wanting the 50 free record forever,” Taylor said.

Taylor’s performance wasn’t the only impressive one on the day. Jackson’s Alana Pazevic got into the act as well in the 100 backstroke. Pazevic’s time of 57.94 seconds was not only a state qualifying time, but also an All-American Consideration time.

We’re talking one fast swim,” LeGore Hodgins said. “It’s going to be real fun to see what she does at state.”
