PREP ROUNDUP: M-P beats Snohomish 3-2 in boys soccer

MARYSVILLE — Both the weather and play were a bit sloppy in Marysville-Pilchucks’ 3-2 Wesco North victory over Snohomish Monday at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

It rained, the field was muddy, there were three goals scored on penalty kicks and the Tomahawks accidentally put a ball in their own goal. Snohomish also collected three yellow cards as a team.

“It was kind of slippery and sloppy,” M-P coach Geoff Kittle said.

The only non-penalty kick goal in the game scored by an opposing team was by Nick Burdett of M-P in the 42nd minute. Burdett stole the ball away from a Snohomish defender when the defender tried to clear it down the right side. Burdett then moved the ball up field and shot from 16 yards out, putting the ball just inside the far post. Burdett ended up with a hat-trick on the day but the next two goals both came off penalty kicks — one granted for pushing a player in the back on a throw-in and the other granted for a handball.
