MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — The Wesco South may be a predominantly Class 4A division, but Class 3A Meadowdale climbed atop the baseball standings Monday, defeating host Mountlake Terrace 6-3.
Meadowdale’s victory pushed its league record to 9-2 and broke what had been a three-way tie with Terrace and Jackson, which lost 7-0 to Kamiak Monday.
“We had guys on base and we had chances to tie it up, but (Meadowdale) made plays when they needed to,” said Terrace coach Andrew Watters.
Meadowdale scored five runs in the the top of the first inning as two walks and a hit batsman loaded the bases. Andrew Suh drove in two with a single, and Matt Gorman followed with a bases-clearing triple and the Mavericks never looked back.
“It was a good baseball game — both teams had shaky moments,” Watters said. “The big difference was they were able to get five in that first inning.”
Suh finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored, and Gorman got the win on the mound.
Matt Shafer had two hits for Terrace.
The teams complete their series today at 4 p.m. at Meadowdale High School.
